Weinhaus Thanisch

The Thanisch family has been making wine since 1648. The wine estate is located in the village of Lieser, in the middle of the Mosel region. The vineyards lie on the steep slopes along the banks of the Mosel river.

Jörg Thanisch has been making the wines for fifteen years now. He mainly produces Riesling wines, but he also makes fine Weissburgunder, Rivaner, Spätburgunder and Dornfelder wines. Jörg is a modern winemaker. He strives for purity and expression of the grape and the terroir. He prefers to ferment his wines on his the natural yeasts which takes longer and is riskier but it adds depth to the wines.

His white wines are very crispy and fresh. He matures his red wines in large oak barrels or in small barriques of French oak.
