In 2008 he was already nominated and in 2009 winemaker György Lörincz won Hungary's most prestigious wine award: Winemaker of the Year! He owes the title to the perfection he strives for without compromise. He had been making wine for years before he thought it was good enough to sell and that is what typifies this quirky genius.
With 18.5 hectares, György has a small winery in the famous wine district of Eger. He can be found in his vineyards almost every day. He carefully selects the most suitable grape for each vineyard and even for each part of the vineyard. György has a striking leaning towards the past and that is what makes him so unique as a winemaker. György harks back strongly to the traditional production methods from the time when Hungary was a leading wine country in Europe. All his white wines are fermented in Hungarian oak barrels. That happened in the past too!
Especially the Bull blood of St. Andrea is internationally renowned. György carefully chooses the most suitable combination of grapes and he has been experimenting for years with the proportion in the blend, which is then matured in Hungarian oak. More than twenty years of trying, searching, learning and experimenting have made him the best winemaker in the country. His Bull Blood has won several major international prizes. In the Netherlands, the Merengő Egri Bikavér won the prestigious Dutch Grand Prix de Sommeliers in 2010.
