The Douloufakis Winery is a family business on the Greek island of Crete that makes modern wines, mainly from the typical grape varieties from the island. The wines of Douloufakis are accessible and have a Mediterranean character.

Terroir The vineyards are located on the island of Crete, in the protected region of Dafnes, close to Heraklion at 350 meters above sea level.
Vineyard treatment The vineyards are maintained according to biodynamic rules but without certification.
Vinification The wine undergoes a classic vinification. The alcoholic fermentation lasts for three days at 20°C and then continues at 25°C in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for up to 12 months in large used French oak barrels.
Impression Light red. Spicy nose of leather, cherries, currants and wood. On the palate juicy plums and cherries, leather, laurel and licorice. Medium body. More flexible than heavy. Some tannin in the aftertaste. Storage potential of approximately eight years.

Did you know? The Liatiko is a native Greek grape of Crete. It was virtually extinct a few decades ago. Nikos Douloufakis is the driving force behind the revival of this qualitatively very interesting wine grape.
